The Black Kennedy

I’m not sure whether to be amused or insulted, but if Teddy’s boy really thinks a white guy with the last name of Kennedy is going to get treated the same as a black guy by the cops, after crashing his car on Capitol HIll, he must be on some good shit.

Fresh from rehab, Rep. Patrick Kennedy said yesterday he wants to be treated like an African-American from Washington if and when he gets charged for crashing his car on Capitol Hill.

Denying that he was drunk and or that he asked the Capitol Police for preferential treatment, Kennedy, a Rhode Island congressman, said he’s prepared “in terms of bookings, in terms of mug shots, fingerprints, whatever they might have me do.”

“It’s what anyone else would have done to them if they were an African-American in Anacostia,” Kennedy said in a shaky voice, referring to the mostly minority neighborhood in southeastern Washington.

I’m so sure Kennedy wants to be treated like a black man would be treated in similar circumstances. He’d last 20 minutes. Tops.

Based on that statement alone, I think he needs to go back to rehab, ’cause whatever he was on isn’t out of his system yet.

  1. I read those comments and I wasn’t offended. I mean it is noble to ask to be treated like everybody else when WE all know that your not a ordinary person. But I’m in agreement with you for the most part….I also disagree with you about the allotted time limit as a black man. No way he makes it past 10 mins….

  2. Being a white guy who actually lived in Temple Hills, MD (a softball throw away from Anacostia) and seeing how the police treated folks in that neighborhood, I’d give Pat about 30 seconds (assuming he was the same type of person he is now).

And I don’t buy for one freaking second that he didn’t play the “Do You Know Who I Am?” card.

  3. If he was a Black man who was drinking and crashed his car, he probably would be in jail right now, not fresh from rehab. That’s what was so insulting…..I vote with T. He’s still smoking or drinking something–I mean who gets out of rehab in like a week. Come on now.
