I'll be reviewing this book myself for my own blog, as soon as my copy arrives in the mail. I've posted here before about scripture, specifically about Gnostic scripture that affirms LesBiGay identity. There are also Gay-affirming passages in the Bible that you can find if you know how to identify them. But increasingly, I feel that scripture is more often than not a stumbling block to true faith.

Faith in words written by men is not true faith. True faith is faith in the will of God, which mankind is incapable of fully documenting or comprehending or explaining. I believe in the concept of being a "born again" Christian. I believe that's the only way to achieve a direct relationship to God. But there are a lot of folks running around, calling themselves "born again" Christians who are actually dead in their faith.

They don't seek rebirth in Jesus Christ, who is alive, but in ancient writings that are devoid of life, and that are repeatedly taken out of context. They're joined at the hip to Bible scripture. Most people, even most preachers, don't understand the Bible, yet they worship it as they would worship God! They regard it as ultimate truth, but it's anything but.

Ultimate truth has nothing to do with hatred and prejudice and ignorance. You can find all three of these things in scripture. You find nothing of the kind in the bosom of God. That's the only place where ultimate truth can be found. Worship the Bible, and you'll be led astray time after time. Worship God, and you'll possess an inerrant compass that you can depend on all the days of your life.
