I remembering seeing it on television and being utterly stunned. It was the first time that I had ever heard anyone put a soulful twist to the Star Spangled Banner. We honored Marvin Gaye on the Electronic Village earlier this week in honor of his birthday. As you noted, his rendition of the national anthem at the 1983 NBA All-Star game was outstanding. I remembering seeing it on television and being utterly stunned. It was the first time that I had ever heard anyone put a soulful twist to the Star Spangled Banner.
