Terrence, I came here via a link on Lauren Bruce's "Offsprung" blog and I want, no, NEED to thank you for writing such a powerful letter and blog. You made this white-hetero-SAHM cry! The love and commitment you show your family is beautiful.

Being a parent changes a person forever. We try to be better people for our kids, to raise them secure in our love and faith in them, to show them by how we live the values we hold dear, to let them know WHEN to speak up and take a stand against injustices.

Your family is just as valid as mine. The fact that mine is a white/hetero marriage makes no difference in my eyes- it makes me want to SCREAM when I hear that other good parents and/or committed couples aren't having their relationships acknowledged and respected properly.

How can ANYONE vote for a candidate that will only support these very personal rights of a select few? Can't they see that EVERYONE deserves fairness and respect? How can a candidate say they "support" families or marriage, but pick and choose which relationships they want to support? Everyone should have the right to marry if they wish. I will never understand it.

Happy Father's Day, Terrence, to you and your husband. Your son is so lucky to have you both!
