I've had several people recently tell me that they have a hard time believing that I'm an introvert. Why do we have to explain ourselves so much? Yeah, I can carry on a conversation with the woman at the next gas pump over, or can make people laugh at at BBQ. That has nothing to do with being an introvert!

I've started calling myself a "social introvert" explaining that I was raised in the South and in the South, we all talked to one another(at least when I was growing up!) So, Terrance, maybe it's some of your Southern roots that enable you to be social in situations. We all know that once we've had our fill of people, we retreat to that safe space, inside our minds. I, for one, enjoy the life of introversion. I'd avoid that spray with the largest of magazines...maybe even an umbrella.

Yeh well Terence, welcome to the club.. I'm not one for small talk, unless it can become big talk [you know, deep and meaningful]. Worse, I'm not one for suffering fools gladly, especially socialising with them at work. Life is too short.

There is nothing wrong with enjoying one's company, or liking being alone. One can never accuse us of being a pain in the arse!

When the chips are down, at least we can be alone and do things, without having a nervous breakdown because we don't have company or someone to entertain us!

Still, no man [no one] as the syaign goes, is an island. Sigh!

if this stuff ever hits the market I can just see some unsuspecting introvert who just wants to listen to his iPod and read his book, or sit back and people-watch without having to talk to anyone getting “sprayed” by some well meaning extrovert who thinks the shy guy just needs a dose of the “cure” so he can be more “normal” and have a good time<blockquote>

You have inspired me to carry a large magazine anytime I'm going out in public to sit and people watch, because that idea just scares me.
