[...] Pam Spaulding of Pam’s House Blend and Terrance Heath of the Republic of T (and gay father extraordinaire!) were two of the several bloggers that got to sit down with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi for breakfast. You can read about the breakfast on Terrance’s blog, or by reading this post on Americablog.com. [...]

It was very brave of you to ask. You're probably not going to get much more out of her. Deep down inside, I think Pelosi does support our cause. The Castro is part of her congressional district. So, I imagine she has more than a few queer staffers. But the bottom line is: she's just too much of a politician to openly confront the people who oppose us.

Unfortunately, some politicians are "too good" at the business of politics for their own good -- and ours. I feel the same way about Hillary. It's very fustrating to watch her squirm out of questions related to homosexuality. This is especially annoying when you KNOW that if she was allowed to say what she really thought, it would be short and sweet. She's much smarter than they her handlers allow her to be.

terrance,

your blog is the first on my reader - this is yet another reason why - always timely, relevant and willing to share with us as you grow your life...

another reason, why living in this village is so fascinating - we get to participate up front (albeit at differing levels.

the solution is simple - each of us has to be challenge and question and be full in ourselves and our communities.

Well, for what it's worth, I'm very happy for you that you got to go! I hope you'll have more "inside the Beltway" opportunities. :)

Good for you, for asking! That took some guts.

I thought about this issue in a tangential way recently when my wife and I rented a car and the clerk offered to put her on as a second driver. "It's free for spouses," he explained. And even though Carolyn doesn't share my last name, he didn't bat an eye. I thought, this is exactly the kind of thing Terrence writes about.

So once again, good for you for bringing up the question Ms. Pelosi. And good for you for writing about it. I doubt I'd have even noticed the inequity without you mentioning it so frequently. It certainly would never have occurred to me to put a bug in my congress-critter's ear from time to time about the matter.

Keep talking about it and writing about it. Equality some day is a nice thought. Equality NOW is a better one.
