Edwards Out

Now that the candidate I once deemed the least unsatisfactory of the remaining Democratic field has dropped out, I find I care even less who gets the Democrats nomination. The nominee will get my vote, to be sure, but not necessarily my enthusiastic support.

    I’m not happy about it, either. :( I am sorry to see him go. Yes, he came off as saccharine and a bit too slick at times. Yes, he was a trial lawyer. Indeed, it is that latter trait that made me believe that he knew the law, and how to work it to challenge corporations. I believe he does care about the working poor. I appreciated the fact that he filled out an NPAT at VoteSmart.org and provided thorough, detailed plans on what he wanted to accomplish. Was he my ideal candidate? No. Did I think he was a better option than Obama or Clinton? Yes.

    Now I have to decide whether to vote for Obama or cross and vote against Huckabee because he has a scary lead in Georgia.

    • I admit it. I'm a bit disappointed not to be among the nominees for the Best LGBT Blog in the 2008 Weblog Awards, but I blog a lot less often than I used to.  Hell, I'm probably have the blogger I used to be. But at least some of the blogs I write for (when I write) have been nominated: The Bilerico Project and Pam's House Blend. Blabbeando, another great blog, is also nominated.     • Not the best way to kick off the new year, but I won't be posting anything today. I've got a few things I'm working on, so there will be more to come. No matter how frustrating it is not to have time to make writing a priority, I cant give it up. Writing is as necessary to me as breathing. So, like a drowning man, I keep struggling to the surface...

    • If you're against capital punishment, there's at least one bright spot in the economic downturn. Executions are at a 14-year-low, in part because of the costs involved in the legal process leading up to execution.

    • I can't believe this story is still churning. Part of me wants to yell "Enough, already!" But part of me also wonders what else might be uncovered. Oh, wait. The "smoking gun" is another photograph. A few, actually. The suggestion is that she wore a fake baby belly and, I guess, was dumb enough to go out without it and let herself be photographed. OK. That's not a stretch. But neither is it a stretch that a 44 year old woman might have a Down's Syndrome baby. She's much more likely to do so than a 16-year-old...

    • Mark this day on your calendar: August 4, 2009. It may not all happen on that day, but it will mark 9 months since November 4, 2008: the day Barack Obama defeated John McCain in the presidential election. So, that  would be "zero day" for the Obama baby boom.

    • Well, I'd hope so. Anyone stupid or careless enough to put an uzi inthe hands of an eight-year-old ought to be charged with something. The D.A. looking into "whether anyone committed a reckless or wanton act" by allowing the child to fire a weapon. Oh, I'd say that qualifies as reckless and wanton. If it doesn't, then nothing does.
