Digest for July 23rd

Here are some of the people writing about some of the stuff I wish I had time to write about, for July 23rd from 07:59 to 15:15:

  1. If I haven’t mentioned it before, I’m always grateful when you include something of mine. =)

  2. Thanks for the link. By the way, we very much doubt that Ahmet Yildiz is the first victim of ‘honour killing’ in Turkey despite having much respect for Professor Bagli. We have heard previous, anecdotal reports from other Turkish men of the deaths of people they know, and we also think that Turkey has not hitherto been much aware of the ‘honour killing’ of men as it tends to be classified as a form of violence against women. (If you read the recent HRW report on homophobia in Turkey you will notice that they have a section on ‘honour killling’ related to lesbians, but include ‘honour’ attacks against gay men in an extended footnote within that section.) We think that ‘honour killing’ against gay men is particularly unlikely to be detected, particularly in the Kurdish regions of Turkey. Hopefully this will change.
