| Here are some of the people writing about some of the stuff I wish I had time to write about, for July 23rd from 07:59 to 15:15:
- Fresh Intelligence : Radar Online : 10 Greatest Moments In Heterosexuality - Inspired by Big-Not-Gay-Al and his insistent heterosexuality, we got to thinking about other heteros persisting in their hetero-ness in the face of similarly vicious rumors. A list of of our Top 10 Greatest Moments In Heterosexuality follows!
- MomLogic :: Are Schools Safe for Gay Kids? - Do you think mainstream schools can handle the growing gay teen population?
- PFLAG National Blog: Families on the Frontlines: Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell . . . and Don’t be Transgender Either - Over 12,000 gay, lesbian and bisexual service men and women have been discharged under DA, DT. We may never know how many of those discharged were really transgender-identified people. We also don’t know how many transgender people who were discharged under DADT that did not get counted in the above number. We do know that some have been sent packing and DA, DT was the excuse the military used.
- GAYTWOGETHER: 10 Smart Things Gay Male Couples Can Teach Other Couples About Sexual Non-Monogamy - Here are 10 smart things Gay Couples can teach other couples about sexual monogamy versus non-monogamy.
- How Scores of Black Men Were Tortured Into Giving False Confessions by Chicago Police | Rights and Liberties | AlterNet - More than 20 years after being tortured into giving confessions by Chicago police officers, dozens of black men remain behind bars.
- Booman Tribune ~ Dead Black Man Tasered 9 Times by White Cop - As we all know, African American men are well known as dangerous, crack smoking criminal degenerates (and always have been) and Mr. Pikes was undoubtedly a very evil, evil man. Even so, I think Officer Nugent just may have gone above and beyond the call of duty when he electrocuted Mr. Spikes to death for the crime of not responding quickly enough to the good Officer's commands. Indeed, one can only wonder if Officer Nugent, under similar circumstances, would have tasered a white suspect who was handcuffed and in his custody 9 fucking times in 14 goddamn minutes.
- Another Bigot Claims a First Amendment “Right Not to Work” - To review: In the absence of some legislative abomination, there is no right of government employees, who owe their livelihood to taxpayers, to claim a plenary “religious exemption” from one’s duties. If you find your job offensive, then you have one and only natural right: the right to quit.
- International Campaign Against Honour Killings - Was Ahmet Yildiz the victim of Turkey’s first gay honour killing? - In a corner of Istanbul today, the man who might be described as Turkey's gay poster boy will be buried – a victim, his friends believe, of the country's deepening friction between an increasingly liberal society and its entrenched conservative traditions.
- Online Adoption Agency Denies Service to Gays | AlterNet - The adoption website is brazenly violating anti-discrimination laws.
- TPMCafe | Talking Points Memo | Political Communities and ‘The Fringe’ - What happens to political minorities in communities with large political majorities? They shut up. At book club or in church, they cut short any conversation bordering on politics

If I haven’t mentioned it before, I’m always grateful when you include something of mine. =)
Thanks for the link. By the way, we very much doubt that Ahmet Yildiz is the first victim of ‘honour killing’ in Turkey despite having much respect for Professor Bagli. We have heard previous, anecdotal reports from other Turkish men of the deaths of people they know, and we also think that Turkey has not hitherto been much aware of the ‘honour killing’ of men as it tends to be classified as a form of violence against women. (If you read the recent HRW report on homophobia in Turkey you will notice that they have a section on ‘honour killling’ related to lesbians, but include ‘honour’ attacks against gay men in an extended footnote within that section.) We think that ‘honour killing’ against gay men is particularly unlikely to be detected, particularly in the Kurdish regions of Turkey. Hopefully this will change.
