Dalai Lama Opens Senate Session With Prayer

Well, if the Senate is going to open its sessions with prayer, it should be open to all faiths. (There are Buddhists in Congress, after all.) So, even though I’m uncomfortable with mixing religion and government, I still think this is pretty cool. What I can’t figure out is how it happened to quietly and smoothly. Right-wingers lost their minds when a Hindu cleric made history by offering the Senate’s morning prayer. But then I remembered, CPAC starts today. I guess the right-wingers had somewhere else to be.

South Carolina governor Nikki Haley supports guns policy where no permit or training is necessary. Great. We already live in society where you can now be shot for texting in movie theater, playing your music too loud at a gas station, and pissing people off with your driving. What made all of these encounters deadly? Readily available firearms. I Halley gets to sign the bill cutting permit and training requirements, get ready for more bloodbaths.

It’s great that after years of being a Republican activist, GOProud’s Jimmy Salvia is “done with the GOP.” But until he sets about undoing the damage he did to the LGBT community, by supporting and funding GOP candidates who have harmed and would further harm our families through their policies, I’m holding my applause.

GOP Congressman Trey Radel to resign. Interesting. Neither this nor the Politico article suggests why he changed his mind, but I wonder if it had something to do with the House Ethics Committee investigation.
