I marched against both U.S. wars in Iraq in my lifetime, and yesterday Parker and I took the bus and the subway down to the mall. We didn’t march with the Buddhist contingent like I’d planned, partially because we got a later start than I intended, and partially because I figured standing around waiting to march would have been pretty boring for Parker. So we went to the rally, listened to the music and a few speeches, took some pictures (I picked up the sign, but Parker asked to hold it and then proceeded to hold it in front of his face while I rolled him around in the stroller) and rode the merry-go-round by the Smithsonian before we got back on the subway to go home. (As I promised him we would when we passed the merry-go-round on our way to the rally.)
It’s been a long time since I’ve blogged much about Iraq as much as I used to. Maybe it’s because I can’t think of anything to say without repeating myself. Maybe it’s because I can’t think of anything to say that doesn’t start with “We told you so.”

I guess I know where I'll be on January 27th; down at the National Mall with a Buddhist Peace Delegation, calling for an end to the war in Iraq. At least I'm going to try to make it down there, and maybe even take Parker and take some pictures. The delegation is cosponsored by the Buddhist Peace Fellowship, and includes one of the first ordained African American Buddhist monks. Barring inclement weather, it could be a good experience, and even a good way to kind of introduce Buddhism to Parker. He's at that stage where "Why?" is his favorite question, and I can imagine this event would inspire lots of questions.

And for the rest of us non-virgins, today is Global Orgasm for Peace Day, which is a chance for fornicators and onanists (and married heterosexuals, I guess) to "effect a change in the world's energy by having as many people as
possible orgasm while focusing their thoughts on world peace." You can do it by yourself, or with a partner. The only rule? You can't fake it. So, you know what you have to do now, and how to do it. And what better time of year to do it? Peace on earth and goodwill to humankind, etc. Right? [Via Alternet.]
